Alternative Pathways to Pharmacy

Entry pathways into pharmacy beyond the standard ATAR route. Each has different requirements and trade-offs.

🎯

Direct undergraduate entry

ATAR 75-90

Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) entered directly from high school. 4-year degree leading to a supervised internship year before pharmacist registration.

🎓

Graduate entry (PharmD/Master)

Doctor of Pharmacy or Master of Pharmacy entered after a relevant science-based Bachelor degree (Biomedicine, Science, Chemistry). Typically 2-3 years.

🪜

TAFE pathway

Start as a Pharmacy Technician (Certificate IV or Diploma), gain industry experience, then articulate into a Bachelor of Pharmacy with credit. Useful if you're switching careers or miss ATAR cutoffs.

↗️

Pharmaceutical Science pathway

If you're interested in pharmaceutical research rather than patient-facing pharmacy, a Bachelor of Pharmaceutical Science is a separate undergraduate route that doesn't lead to pharmacist registration but opens doors in industry and research.
