Alternative Pathways to Law

Entry pathways into law beyond the standard ATAR route. Each has different requirements and trade-offs.

🎯

Direct undergraduate entry (LLB)

ATAR 95+ at top-tier, 80+ elsewhere

Enter directly into a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from high school. Most universities offer this as a standalone 4-year degree.

🔗

Combined double degree

Pair Law with Arts, Commerce, Science, Engineering, Economics, or Psychology in a 5-year double degree. Often the preferred route - gives you two qualifications and a stronger graduate profile. ATAR cutoffs can differ from the standalone LLB.

🎓

Graduate entry (JD)

Juris Doctor - a postgraduate professional law qualification. You complete any Bachelor degree first, then apply to the JD. No ATAR required at this stage; entry is based on GPA and sometimes an admission test or personal statement.

🔄

Mature-age and non-standard entry

If you've been out of school for several years or completed a VET qualification, most law schools offer alternative entry via STAT test, portfolio, or mature-age entry schemes.

↔️

Transfer from another course

Strong performance in another university course can qualify you for internal transfer into Law, often at a lower ATAR equivalent than direct high-school entry.
